New, WIPO Pre-Approved Terms for Goods and Services Now Available to Australian Trademark Applicants!

Good news! On March 26, 2024, IP Australia started using new WIPO pre-approved terms to classify the goods and services covered by both national (Australia) and international (Madrid System) trademark registrations.

What does this mean for you?

- More flexibility and choice regarding the goods and services in which you can seek protection in Australia – the Madrid System’s goods and services picklist covers a wider range of terms than that of IP Australia.

- Less red tape thanks to harmonized examination practices. A win-win situation whether you are an Australian applying for a national trademark or hoping to export your brand overseas using the Madrid System.

- A quicker turn-around time for securing protection of your international trademark registration within and outside of Australia. When terms are pre-aligned at both national and international registration level, the risks of refusal of protection are reduced! Read more
