Implementation of CP11, Common Practice for new types of trade marks

The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) participates in Convergence Programs of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in the context of converging trademark and design practices. Recently the ISIPO implemented the CP11 Common Practice with the aim of providing guidance with regard to the examination of formal requirements and grounds for refusal and/or invalidity of new types of trademarks, namely, sound, motion, multimedia and hologram marks, and the new ways of representing them. The Common Practice is in accordance with the ISIPO's assessment of absolute and relative grounds for refusal in general, and therefore does not entail major changes. Information about CP11 and other Convergence Programs can be found here.  Read more
