Because of the civil war started in 1991, it was not possible to register a trademark in Somalia. The Somali Intellectual Property Office has reopened and trademark registration applications are being accepted. A power of attorney and certificate of incorporation is required. When the application has been accepted, the mark will be advertised, starting the 45 day opposition period. Assuming no oppositions are filed, the mark will be registered. Registrations are valid for 10 years.
