On August 25, 2021, the Australian Patent Office will no longer accept innovation patents. Innovation patents filed prior to August 25, 2021 will continue to be in force until they expire. Applicants can still file divisional innovation patents and convert standard patent applications to innovation patents as long as the filing date of the standard patent application is before August 25, 2021. An innovation patent term is eight years from the filing date.
